Porto Cervo (Poltu Celvu in Gallurese, Portu Chervu in Sardinian) is a hamlet of the municipality of Arzachena, in the province of Olbia-Tempio in northeastern Sardinia, a geographic-historical region known as Gallura.
It is the main center of the Costa Smeralda and has a population of less than 200 inhabitants.
Renowned holiday resort is built around the deep natural harbor, whose shape resembles that of a deer and dominates the promontories on the sea, the curve of the harbor and the scattered villas, immersed in greenery.
The center is built on a mezzanine level with respect to the harbor, with its famous square, shops and boutiques, while restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and villas all climb up to the surrounding hills.
The Old Port dates back to the sixties, when Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, fascinated by the beauty of this stretch of coast, decided to buy the poor lands of this corner of Gallura and together with the greatest architects of the time, among them stands out Luigi Vietti, to give life to the paradise of international elite tourism we know today.
In 1967 the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda was founded.
In the 1980s, work began on the construction of the new, more generous and equipped harbor.
