Porto Cervo :
Undisputed capital of the Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo is a fraction of the Gallura center of Arzachena, with a few hundred residents. In the summer it becomes an extraordinary parade of hundreds of yachts, yachts and famous people: in the easy square you will find yourself shopping with movie and television stars. Every day is a continuous alternation of appointments with the international jet set: parties, social life, sporting events, golf in particular.
The village on the sea has risen around a natural inlet reminiscent of a deer. The old port dates back to the sixties, when with a brilliant intuition the prince Karim Aga Khan IV, fascinated by the beauty of the coast, decided to buy the lands of this corner of Gallura and, together with the Swiss-French set designer Jacques Couelle , later joined by some Italian architects, to give life to the paradise of international elite tourism. In the eighties, work began on the construction of the new marina, today one of the largest and most equipped in the Mediterranean (700 berths), home of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, organizer of fascinating and prestigious regattas. Walking on the docks you can admire the yachts and yachts of rich famous people or watch the spectacle of their exit from the port.
The center of Poltu Celvu (in Gallura) is built on a mezzanine level compared to the port. From the Piazzetta delle Chiacchiere to Sottopiazza is a series of alleyways, windows, balconies, built in the style of the Costa Smeralda, and shops and boutiques with prestigious names, while all around the most prestigious restaurants, luxury hotels, fashionable, center of the night life of the coast, and the beautiful villas climb up the surrounding hills, immersed in the Mediterranean. In planning, the prince and his collaborators thought they could create an architecture that would maintain the continuity with the typical Gallurese as much as possible, inserting it perfectly into the environment: it was the key to success. Speaking of architecture, do not miss the splendid Stella Maris church, designed by the architect Michele Busiri Vici, overlooking Porto Cervo marina.
